Los Angeles // Picnic and a movie screening at Cinespia

In case you missed it, we were ranting on our Instagram last week about how we couldn’t wait for our picnic at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to see the movie The Lost Boys.  Well, the big night was this past Saturday and we had so much fun! We can’t wait to go again.  (oh, and if you aren’t following us on Instagram yet then you are missing out!!! @delectablebakehouse)

Every summer, Cinespia moves there theater outdoors for what they call “Cemetery Screenings” at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It was basically a giant picnic. You don’t sit on graves or anything. At the back of the cemetery is a huge open lawn and they project the movie onto the side of one of the buildings.  They have DJ’s spinning before and after the movie and even a themed photo booth.

We bought our movie tickets along with on-site parking which we would say is a must! If you don’t buy parking, then you have to find a spot somewhere in the neighborhood and then walk to the cemetery and stand in line. It was, like, 90° on Saturday so I’m sure that sucked. We got there a little early so we weren’t able to park yet. We made a stop a couple blocks away at Delancey’s for a drink. A guy sat next to us at the bar and we overheard him saying he was going to the movie too. We told him we couldn’t wait to see The Lost Boys and he told us they would be showing two other movies too, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Interview with the Vampire. We had no idea!  Anyway, this guy, his name was Xander, didn’t pay for on-site parking so we gave him a ride back to the cemetery to meet his friends in line who were “sweating their asses off”.  So, pay for the parking. And Mr. Xander, if you are reading this, thank you for paying our valet fee!

Once we got in and parked, we found a nice spot (next to a speaker, which turned out to not be so nice for ours ears after an hour or two) and setup our picnic. If you go to one of these screenings, we recommend you bring a tarp to put on the grass under you blankets and extra blankets to keep warm; it got cold late at night. It was a super fun night and we are already planning our movie night. Here’s a couple snapshots of our picnic.

We brought a couple of bottles of Sangria and we made some palm sandwiches. We used a full loaf of french bread and cut it in half. Then we covered one half with mustard, avocado, turkey and lettuce and topped it with the other half.  We used a large cutting board to flatten the sandwich a bit so it would be easy to cut into more uniform squares. We set everything up on this sweet collapsible table from Crate & Barrel that everyone was asking us about and covered it in a tablecloth made from fabric we found at M&L Fabrics in Anaheim, CA

We skewered some cantalope, honeydew and strawberries and brought our Pesto Ranch Pasta Salad in tupperware so it was easy to transport and wouldn’t get wet in the cooler.

And you can’t have an outdoor midnight meal with S’mores!
