Homemade Apple Cider (spiked if you’d like)

IMG_1765

It’s near the end of apple season for us but we still have a ton of apples hanging around. The days are getting colder and colder and what better way to warm up than with a hot beverage.  We found a way to keep warm and get rid of our apple overstock.

Not only is apple cider delicious to drink but it smells amazing when making it!

Ingredients
  1. 10-12 apples, cored and quartered
  2. 1/2 cup sugar
  3. 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  4. 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  5. 1/4 tsp cloves
  6. 8-10 cups of water or enough to just cover the apple by a few inches
Instructions
  1. Place apples in a large stockpot and cover with water. When you sink an apple, the water should cover it by about 3-4 inches. Stir in the sugar and spices.
  2. Bring to a boil and let cook for 1 hour. Then, cover and simmer for another hour.
  3. Strain out the apples and discard. Strain the cider again using a cheesecloth or other fine mesh sieve over a bowl.
  4. Pour into a pitcher and refrigerate.
