El Presidente #1

el presidente cocktail

I made these on Sunday for a couple of girlfriends and we loved them! This cocktail has been around since at least the early 50’s. I know this because I got the recipe out of a 1953 edition of Old Mr. Boston’s De Luxe Official Bartender’s Guide. It was originally published in 1935 and I have the 11th edition. It’s possible the El Presidente cocktail has been around since at least 1935 but I may never know. Newer versions I’ve found are almost entirely different drinks. I’m usually a vodka or tequila girl but I’ve been trying to expand my cocktail palate. I like the El Presidente because it doesn’t have a strong rum flavor. Oh, and it’s pink! I played with the proportions of juice and citrus a little and I think the result is pure perfection. I’ve made this cocktail with both lime and lemon juice and it’s nice either way. The little bit of grenadine adds a nice sweetness to the tart citrus. It’s a very smooth and refreshing drink so be careful! You’ll want to drink this fast and then make some more.el presidente
